According to the Human Engineering Laboratory and Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation, an extensive knowledge of the exact meanings of English words accompanies outstanding success in this country more often than any other single characteristic.
According to the Johnson O’Connor’s nearly 100 years of study, “an extensive knowledge of the exact meanings of English words accompanies outstanding success in this country more often than any other single characteristic.”
Why is this so? According to Johnson O’Connor, “the answer seems to be that words are the tools with which we think, and with which we grasp the thoughts of others.” In his fifty year career, Johnson O’Connor “was unyielding in his opposition to those who believed that only usage really mattered; that standards of right and wrong, correct and incorrect, were irrelevant. To those people, ‘uninterested’ and ‘disinterested’ were synonyms, as were ‘presently’ and ‘currently.’ ‘We can’t let the ignorant define our words for us,’ he would argue.”
This thinking is fundamental to our work at TheFormTool. We love words. We believe it’s best to spend more time once getting the words and terms exactly right, then letting the program repeat the exercise as needed. We think there’s a benefit to crafting language within Word, without the noise or interference created when using an external program. Words are how we share, the basis of almost all our professional, and most of our social, communications.
Our programs treat words with the respect they deserve. If words are important to you, give some thought to one of our programs.
