Years and years and years ago, Art Linkletter hosted one of the first daytime TV interview shows. Among his guests was Conrad Hilton, the founder of what became for awhile the largest and most prestigious hotel chain in the country and the world. Presidents, kings, and captains of industry routinely lodged in Mr. Hilton’s rooms.
One of the real risks of live television was filling the time exactly; not too many questions, not too few. Like Goldilocks, time management needed to be perfect. Linkletter’s interview with Mr. Hilton ran a little short, so he turned and asked a totally unscripted question, “Mr. Hilton, we have just a bit more time. What would you most like to tell the American people?” Pause. Conrad Hilton, always thinking business first, turned into the camera and said, “The shower curtain goes on the inside.” For those who’ve wondered what I think when showering at the Chicago Hilton, now you know. For those who have had no interest in this story so far, the equivalent message for TheFormTool family is, “The Check Form tool is the most valuable tool on the menu bar. When a document doesn’t work quite right, use it.” |
